Pennies for the Red Eyes

Women in some areas of Africa are often ostracized and sometimes killed because of the mistaken belief that their red eyes are signs of evil or witchcraft.  Their red eyes are, in fact, caused by open cooking fires.  An ongoing project of the Southern Ohio Synod WELCA, Pennies for Red Eye, provides funds to educate the public in Africa of the true cause of red eyes. Women are being rescued from certain death and are being trained in a trade such as sewing so they can support themselves.  They receive living expenses during this time and  are nurtured in the faith of our Lord and Savior.  Clinton Heights’ WELCA circles are collecting pennies for this fund.  You are invited to donate your loose change.  Look for the designated container in the church narthex.

MEALS FOR CHURCH MEMBERS

Could you help prepare meals for church members who are ill, recuperating from surgery, have new babies, or facing other situations where meals would be appreciated. Please contact Gretchen LaBuhn at glabuhn@columbus.rr.com or 457-7218 if you would like to help or if you have questions.

LSS FOOD PANTRY

The Mission Committee collects, on the first Sunday of each month, food items and other sundries for the LSS Food Pantry at the corner of Frebis and Champion.  Special needs are diapers of all sizes, sugar-free items for diabetics, personal care items, toothpaste and toothbrushes.  Everyday Needs are coffee, tea bags (individually wrapped or small boxes), soups, canned fruits and vegetables, jelly, pasta or potato side-dishes, macaroni and cheese, tuna, syrup, canned ravioli/spaghetti, pancake mixes, oatmeal/hot cereal.

New Endowment Fund Created
to Assist with Church Operations

A new endowment fund has been created to enhance the ministry of Clinton Heights by providing income that may be used for the general operations of the congregation as established in the annual church budget.

This fund was established by a generous stock contribution from Ruth Cahill.  The stock was sold and the proceeds of $26,863 formed the beginning balance in what is called the Current Use Endowment (CUE).  This is in contrast to the church’s existing endowment, established in 1999, which is now called the Congregational Outreach Endowment Fund.  At the end of July this endowment had a balance of $98,141.  <>
Both funds are administered by a five-member Congregational Endowment Fund Committee, the members of which are appointed by Church Council.  The principal in both endowments remains intact.  Allocations from the endowments are made from interest earned on the principal.  <>
The Endowment Committee voted to establish the CUE fund, with Church

Council approval, because of concerns that in recent years congregational annual giving has not met budgeted levels.  The guidelines under which the original Outreach Endowment Fund was established specifically prohibit any income being used to assist the church’s annual operating budget.

New brochures describing both endowment funds will be enclosed with November’s issue of the Bellringer.  The members of the Endowment Fund Committee urge everyone in the congregation to read these short brochures.  While the committee members encourage contributions to either endowment, they point out that such support should not be at the expense of annual giving.

In addition to chair Vern Cahill, other members of the Endowment Committee include Bob Hightshoe, Helen Ish, Randy Ketcham, Martha Ratliff and Pastor Wolfe.  All of these people will be happy to answer any questions concerning either endowment.
