What is Praise Place?? Each Sunday,
9:45-10:45 a.m., children and friends of CHLC,
pre-school through fifth grade, are meeting to praise God and learn His
teachings and word. Praise Place is a
workshop-rotational
Sunday School program with children divided into three groups:
pre-school and
kindergarten, first and second grades, and third through fifth grades. Our curriculum is based on a monthly theme
with the children rotating between three or four workshops during each
month. Workshops include Peter and
Paul’s Playstation where we read and re-tell the selected month’s
selected
Bible story and review its meaning and importance through a variety of
games
and activities, Mary and Martha’s Kitchen where children
explore the
lessons through cooking and food-related activities, How Great Thou
Art
Studio where children explore their dramatic talents and jump into
the
Bible story to get a hands-on, real-life learning experience, and WTLC
where children are given the opportunity to watch a movie related to
the
monthly theme or create their own television show.
Each Sunday begins at 9:45 a.m. in the Gathering Room on the
first floor Education Unit, with a brief welcome, introduction and
music time,
as well as a praise offering in which the children offer thanks and
praise to
God for something good in their lives.
Rehearsals for the Children’s Choir are held during the
welcoming time.
What’s Happening at Praise
Place? We’ve
had a great time during the Sunday
School hour at Praise Place! In
January, the children learned about Jesus and his disciples. We went “fishing,” made tackle boxes to
catch disciples, and re-enacted the story at the theater.
During
February, the children explored Jesus’ miracles, focusing on the story
of Blind
Bartimaeus. Through all of their
workshops, the children explored what it would be like were they blind.
In
March, we’ve studied Nicodemus who came to Jesus at night to learn
about new
life. The children made chocolate cookies
with white chips to remind them that Nicodemus came at night. They have played Full-of-Life,
a board game about our story and general questions
concerning the Bible and Jesus. Wind
paintings were created in the art studio.
In
April, we will learn about the Resurrection.
Praise Place continues through May 21st.
Plan to join us during the Sunday School
hour.
Praise Place Opportunities: Want to
help children
learn about God’s love? Enjoy games,
crafts, cooking or acting? Prefer a
short-term teaching commitment? Then
Praise Place is a great way to spend one hour on Sunday morning.
We are looking for smiling faces, warm
hearts and caring individuals to share God’s love with our children.
Each teacher teams with another volunteer –
a spouse, a friend, a child, a parent – for a three-week commitment.
Everything is planned for you—lessons,
supplies, even the words you may use.
All you need to do is come on Sunday morning to share with the
children. Sound like fun? Sign up on the bulletin board in
the narthex
or contact Shannon Johnson (889-4865 or shannon@nejohnson.com).
